Renovation, Décor and Design by Platypus and Pine: Who We Are

I’m Channing and I’m the driving force behind Platypus and Pine. I’ve spent over 30 years renovating and refurbishing our own homes (6 to date) in various themes, styles and materials.

My first job was as a hairdresser which I am 100% sure gave me the ability to use colour correctly. You’ve never learned a colour wheel like your hairdresser has. Or had, I’m not sure what they learn now! I think it was also a good foray into a creative role and was probably responsible for the start of my love of all things design.

My DESIGN Experience

On a pretty tight budget we renovated our first home in Karratha in WA, lived there for a few years and then sold it for a decent profit.

We then moved to Cairns in the far north of Queensland and purchased a home that the agent thought should be demolished. Nope, we spend the next 5 years renovating that, turned it into a holiday let and eventually sold it 5 years after that.

We now live on the Gold Coast where we’ve done it 3 times again and are about to look at our final project in the next few years. I’ve loved everywhere we’ve lived, we’ve renovated for the market and the style of the property and I’ve made them all profitable flips.
